I have been painting landscapes en plein air since the 1980s. Working directly outdoors allows me to connect with nature as I explore the idea of place. My work offers a narrative of color, movement, shape, light, and pattern through rolling fields, moving water and dramatic skies. I am also attracted to man-made lines and patterns including plowed fields, vineyards, power lines, roads, and structures. Features of the landscape become 'characters' in the story I paint the places I love to be. Through my work, I hope to share how it felt to be at a particular place at a particular moment in time.
