Working in wax is perhaps my most adventurous practice. Inspiration comes from the material itself. Encaustic is unique because of the artist’s ability to paint, build, remove, carve, collage, print, and combine with other media like oil and pastel. Working with heat and flame adds another satisfying element of interaction and surprise. I enjoy exploring the properties of the wax and the new conversation that comes with each piece.

I am fortunate and grateful to be connected to an exciting group of artists in Rochester and beyond who work in wax. Our regular contact and sharing elevates us all. The fact that Rochester Art Supply, maker of Enckaustikos paints, is down the street from my studio makes me a lucky person! A sampling of my encaustic work is in the gallery below.
